Case Study: Online Animated Training at HRdownloads

HRdownloads Inc.

Problem Statement

HRdownloads struggled to produce a training course that met the essential criteria for corporate training but touted it as a competitive advantage to potential clients. After committing a sizable amount of capital to rebrand, the CEO brought me in to transform the training library and align it with new corporate standards. Furthermore, the existing content team of 6 people had a rough idea of what training course style they wanted, but it took up to 6 months to write, produce, and publish a single course.

Below is a sample of the style of training that populated the library before my arrival.

The training library required radical transformation and I accomplished that using strategic usage analysis, animated and engaging courses, and rapid, market-driven program development.

Solution Implemented

I transformed the training library and built a revenue-generating capability within the content department. However, I was promised the resources for a dedicated team to manage the $1 million production contract signed before my employment started.

The COVID shutdowns started shortly after I was hired, and all hiring was suspended. However, the terms of the production contract could not be suspended, and the CEO told me to continue to produce toward my production target of 50 animated courses by year’s end.

I developed three programs to be commercialized into revenue-generating programs using supporting services like coaching, mentoring and learning reinforcements. I developed one non-commercializable program that addressed an immiedate market need regarding mental health. These programs all used techniques and tools from engaging mediums such as video games, TV, and films to create fun and engaging learning.

Results Achieved

In 18 months, I transformed 46 courses, acting as subject matter expert, designer, writer, producer, publisher, and marketer for each. The membership base was extremely enthusiastic about the new courses, with the first 12 months' usage rates more than quintupling those of other standard courses in the library. I successfully transformed incredibly dull, dated and factually incorrect learning into engaging, fun, and rigorously researched courses.

I developed a strategic method for assessing which courses to transform and when. By following this process, I was able to transform and create the right sequence of courses to cover over 40% of the total annual assignments taken by the membership base. Sadly, due to a variety of factors, I had no choice but to leave and start my own learning solutions organization and I was unable to finish the 50 courses.
